Humanitarian Clowning
with Clowns Without Borders UK
A three day workshop in trauma informed practice and Humanitarian Clowning

Join Clowns Without Borders UK for a joyful and thoughtful exploration of our unique approach to clowning for humanitarian and community settings.
Become a more effective, adaptive and resilient practitioner by transforming your arts-led practice so it is trauma-informed. We will explore the basis of trauma-informed practice, drawing on Clowns Without Borders’ years of experience in crisis zones, to explore how strength, hope and resilience can be built in the most adverse of conditions using humour and play.

This workshop is suitable for those with or without clowning and performance experience. It is for anyone with interest or experience in community arts practice or who work with people in complex settings.

Join us to:
  • Have fun in a lively, supportive environment
  • Challenge yourself with new ideas and perspectives to add to your work
  • Gain practical tools and mastery of our Laughter and Play facilitation methods
  • Learn clowning skills and create community connections

The space will be safely led by experienced facilitators with first hand understanding of clowning in humanitarian settings.

WHAT PREVIOUS PARTICIPANTS OF CWB UK'S WORKSHOPS HAVE SAID:

★ "A beautiful workshop that increased self awareness, empathy and connection with myself and others. The playful methods and how it was led created a safe space that facilitated healing. It was such a joy to learn and laugh together."
Soledad Pinero Misa, Joy as an Act of Radical Self-care participant

★ "The training was brilliant, I really liked the group work with different people throughout the day. The space felt accessible and the facilitator made me feel comfortable whilst we discussed subjects that can be quite emotive. I would definitely recommend this course."

About Clowns Without Borders

Picture
Clowns Without Borders UK shares the healing power of play with children displaced by war
and natural disaster. We’ve shared workshops and performances with over 75,000 children in 15
countries, upholding childrens’ Human Right to Play, where it is most needed.
Our approach is trauma-informed, child centred, and participatory, using play to create joyful,
creative moments of social and emotional support. We work alongside NGOs as part of
disaster-relief efforts around the world, and train humanitarian workers and local practitioners
in our approach to emotional first-aid: Humanitarian Clowning.
Here in the UK, we share our approach with artists, educators, facilitators, and organisations,
through our trainings, workshops, and performances, in order to support healthier, happier
communities through creativity and play.
